What You Need To Know About Renting a Dumpster for Your Construction Project

Posted on: 19 May 2021

If you are working on a large construction project or remodeling job, you may want to consider dumpster rental services to deal with old material that is not getting used or to trash packaging from new products. Determining what kind of dumpster is right for your job site and how many dumpsters are needed is a good starting point.

Dumpster Styles

When you are looking at dumpsters for a construction job, you might be surprised how many different dumpsters are available. Finding the right dumpster for your situation can make it easier to use the container.

A dumpster with doors that open on one end can be excellent if you are putting a lot of heavy material in the container or using a machine like a skid steer to deposit the material in the container. The skid steer can carry the debris right into the container because the machine is small enough to drive inside. These dumpsters are a great option if you are trying to eliminate the need to lift heavy materials over the side of a dumpster.

Low-sided boxes are also available. These allow you to load the container from the side without lifting the debris very high. These dumpsters can be useful if you are handloading the dumpster instead of using a machine to load the debris. Talk to the dumpster rental company about the options they offer for your job site so you can choose the right one for your needs.

Dumping Schedule

The dumpster rental company you are working with can set up a schedule to dump the container from your site or you can request they not empty it until you call them. If you are going to call when you want it emptied, do not wait until the day you need it emptied to call the dumpster rental company because it may take a day to get to it, depending on their schedule.

If you know you will fill the container every week, pick a day that works for you and request to have the dumpster emptied on that day. Often having it emptied on Saturday works because it is the end of the workweek and when you arrive at the site on Monday, the dumpster will be empty to start the week.

Most dumpster rental companies will come out and empty the container early if you need them to, but some companies will charge a fee for emptying the dumpster early.

Dumpster Cost

The cost of a dumpster rental will vary from one company to the next, but typically the rental price for the container is set at a monthly cost, and then there is a fee for dumping the dumpster that is often based on the weight of the material in it. The dumpster rental company will go over the costs with you when you enquire about the rental.
