Can My Foundations Be Saved?

Posted on: 20 May 2021

Foundations are one of the strongest areas of the home, and this may be the last place you would expect to find a structural issue. If you think about it, however, it begins to make more sense because of how low down the foundation is and how secluded it can be from your vision. You may not notice little problems becoming bigger ones or moisture starting to sink in until it is too late and something needs to be done to save your home. If you are having issues with your foundation the good news is that all hope is not lost.

Spot Fixes

Foundation repair is an industry with a lot of scopes, as sometimes the issues that present themselves first are rather small and only affect one part of the foundations. Perhaps you need to replace a few underpinnings with more modern alternatives to the older materials used in the past (such as timber). Other times you may only have a little crack in your concrete foundation that needs to be resealed. Whatever the case may be, if you catch it early then spot fixes can come in handy to prevent long-term erosion and save your back pocket a lot of hurting!

Major Structural Work

Even if the problem has progressed past the stage where you could fix it with a little bit of concrete or a new supporting pillar, there is still a lot to do before a home or building will be condemned. First, the building will need to be supported by transportable foundations that can be slid in place and keep the weight of the house off the old foundations. Then these old foundations will be removed and replaced, one by one, so that no part of the house is left under too much stress for too long. Unless your home is already crumbling into the floor, this method can save most buildings if you act fast.

Quick Action

The best advice you can hear when it comes to foundation repair is to act as soon as you can. You may have resigned yourself to having to move out or demolish your home well before that is a possibility, but if you don't act quickly it can become one. Call for an inspection at the very least and here what an expert in foundation repair has to say before you draw your own conclusions. You may be surprised at just how easy it is to put your home back on solid ground.
