Protect Your Water Supply: What To Include In Your Well Water Maintenance Appointment

Posted on: 6 January 2023

The new year is here. If you haven't done water well system maintenance yet, now's the time to take care of that. Well water system maintenance is something you should do on an annual basis. To help you remember, you could schedule maintenance on the first of every year. That way, you don't need to remember dates and months. Read the information provided below. Here are four steps to take when you have your water well system serviced.

Inspect Pressure Tank

When it comes to servicing your well water system, it's a good idea to start with the pressure tank. The pressure tank is the holding tank for your well water. Water gets pulled up from the well. Once out of the well, the water gets held in the pressure tank.

From there, the water gets pumped into your home. If the pressure tank doesn't work, you won't get water to your home. That's why your annual well maintenance should include a pressure tank inspection.

Service the Motor

If you're going to service your well water system this month, don't forget about the motor. Your pump motor keeps the system running. If the motor isn't running right, the pump won't work. That's why maintenance is so important.

During the annual service, the pump motor will get tested for amp load and voltage. It will also get inspected for signs of visible damage. If there are problems with the motor, you should have the pump replaced as soon as possible.

Check the Flow

If you haven't tested the flow limits on your water well lately, now's the time to do that. Flow tests help identify problems with well output. During the flow test, water levels get tested twice. First, the water level gets checked before pumping begins. Next, water levels get tested once pumping stops. Flow testing can identify issues with leaks, and other problems. It's a good idea to test the flow limits each time you have your well water system serviced.

Test the Water

If you're ready to have your well water system serviced, be sure to test the water. Water quality can change from time to time. Quality can get affected by a variety of things including fertilizers, and pesticides. An annual water test lets you identify potential contaminants. If you do have contaminants in your water, your water system maintenance service provider can give you tips on how to fix the problem.
